Things to do on Valentine’s Day in Cape Town 2016

Published: February 5, 2016 5:51 pm

Valentine's Day in Cape Town

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. If you’re reading this, theres a good chance you might be out of ideas. Don’t panic, we’re here to help!

This post is a little different. Its more of a selected chronological list of possibilities.

Get outside in nature together (free)

February is normally a month of beautiful hot weather. Why not make the most of it and get up out of bed earlier than your normal Sunday routine? Go for a morning hike up Lion’s Head or up Kloof Corner.  If you go up Lion’s Head, you’ll be done in an hour or so and you’ll be hungry for breakfast…

Have a delicious breakfast

Make your way down to Kloof street for numerous delicious options. Cafe Paradiso and Manna Epicure are two of our favourites. Alternatively, follow Camps Bay Drive to Hout Bay and have breakfast at Bay Harbour Market in a relaxed and vibey atmosphere. They also do sparking wine and oysters ;)

Go to the beach (free)

The Atlantic Seaboard has some of the most romantic and stunning beaches in the world. Relax and whisper sweet nothings to your loved one on the gorgeous beaches of Clifton, Camps Bay or Llandudno. Ice lollies anyone? The beach is also an amazing setting for a packed picnic. Surprise her/him by including tasty treats you know they like.

Lunch and/or wine tasting in the Winelands

If the beach isn’t your style, you cant go wrong with wine tasting in a wine farm setting. Most known wine farms will have great sit down lunch or picnic options. The majority of these will be around the Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek area, so a more lavish option will be to book a night’s stay on the Saturday so you will have a full day eating and being merry. Alternatively, if you want to do this closer to Cape Town, go to Constantia. The Constantia Wine Route has has some stunning venues. Have a look here.

Go shopping and have a couples massage

Head to the V&A Waterfront and spoil each other a little. Go shopping together and afterwards get a cocktail and massages together at the One & Only. You can also do something even more typically romantic and take a ride on the ferris wheel at the V&A. Also, since Valentine’s Day is geared mostly towards the ladies,  your man might be pleasantly surprised if you booked movie tickets to something you know he’d really like. The comic book action movie Deadpool opens on the 12th of February ;)

Make dinner together

A romantic restaurant dinner is always a winner, but getting a booking is difficult as everyone has the same idea. After an action packed day, rather unwind together and cook a meal. Make something you both love and have fun cooking it together. Set your table with candles and chilled wine, and let the conversation flow. When we asked people about things to do on Valentine’s Day, one response we got was, “Just think of normal activities, and then add wine”. There may be some truth to that.

If you’re single

Ponder your self worth and cry into a tub of ice cream, obviously. But after you’re done, go out! Valentine’s Day is actually a great day to socialise and possibly meet someone new. And there are great opportunities to bond over a united lament of all the sickly in-love couples.

If you’re not in Cape Town

Come to Cape Town! We are biased, but you will be hard pressed to find so much natural beauty, good food, and fun activities for Valentine’s Day as you will in Cape Town. You’ll notice that many of the things in this list are free or very cheap too. Find romantic Cape Town accommodation and come on down. What’s more romantic than a weekend getaway to the most beautiful city?
