Surf Spots in Cape Town

If you’re looking for a new favourite surf spot, take some advice from the locals and pick from these top five locations.

Surf Spots in Cape Town
Derde Steen can be found just past Big Bay and Blaauberg. It’s a great, fairly exposed beach break that serves up fabulous waves under the right conditions. It’s not for amateur surfers though, as you’ll need to be able to negotiate the waves well.
Big Bay is a popular choice for both new and advanced surfers so the beach and waters can get quite busy. Big Bay has a relatively laid back atmosphere, with easy access to shops and restaurants, for when you need a snack after riding the waves.
Llandudno Beach is a true jewel of the Western Cape. Whilst the water is cold, the beach is beautiful and Llandudno is known for offering up some great waves, if you know how to catch them.
Dunes is also a popular surfing spot, and is one of Cape Town’s surfing treasures. The unspoiled location is less crowded than other surf spots and boasts a beautiful, long beach.
Long Beach is Cape Town’s most well-known surf spot. Whilst it can get crowded, this beach is perfect for all surfing fanatics - from the very beginner to advanced. It’s known for its friendly atmosphere and waves that are relatively easy to ride.
