Oudtshoorn is found along the Garden Route, in the Klein Karoo, and lies between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world.

Ostriches are found in great numbers and Oudtshoorn is peppered with a number of ostrich farms. The region produces the best feathers, leather products and ostrich meat in the world. Not to be forgotten, though, is that Oudtshoorn is also home to the Cango Caves.

What makes this little town even more attractive as a holiday destination, is that Oudtshoorn has the most sunny days per year in the whole of South Africa. Shielded from the coastal belt by the mountain ranges, the Klein Karoo region also enjoys many windless days.

Waterfalls abound, and visitors can safely visit two spectacular examples at Rus en Vrede and at Meiringspoort – a narrow, vertical cleft in the Swartberg Mountain. The Swartberg Pass, between Oudtshoorn and Prince Albert, is one of the most sensational drives in southern Africa, and has been declared a national monument.

The Cheetah Breeding Farm in Oudtshoorn is one of the foremost examples of eco-tourism in the world. A superb mixture of conservation and tourism. This is a highly successful breeding station, one of only two in the southern hemisphere. There is also the Angore Rabbit show farm to visit, so animal lovers will find that Oudtshoorn is a great place to viist.

Renowned for its small town hospitality, Oudtshoorn is also home to a number of top quality hotels, lodges and guesthouses.
